The work is the third premiere for Bulgaria and the first time it is performed outside the capital. Unlike Imre Kalmen's other hit titles, The Duchess of Chicago confronts the performers with much more difficult vocal tasks. The subject matter is relevant today - the invasion of American music and dance into Europe, and the clash between the two cultures. The other main leitmotif in the action, is the dramatic choice between money or love. "Lavish sets, interesting lighting, exquisite ballet, and a symphony orchestra are all part of the beautiful spectacle the audience encounters.
